Pro Musica Opera presents THE CORONATION OF POPPEA

Pro Musica, the marvelous organization bringing the finest in classical music to SMA, would like to encourage you to attend a unique occasion on February 25th or 26th. The event is “The Coronation of Poppea,” a Baroque opera by Claudio Monteverdi.  The event will be held at Bellas Artes at 6:00 pm. and will include a 13-piece orchestra and English and Spanish subtitles. This opera was one of the first to use historical events and people, and has never been staged in Mexico, so this will be its premiere nearly 400 years after it was written! It tells the story of how Poppea, the Roman Emperor Nero’s lover, becomes his Empress. There will be murder, revenge, betrayal and a coronation, everything a good opera should have.

Tickets are $200, $400 and $500 pesos and can be purchased online with no booking fee at www.promusicasma.org/ or at the Bookshop in the Biblioteca and at the door of the performance venue, 45 minutes before the performance. This opera will be very entertaining and we hope you will attend.

(Sponsoring a VIP Club Newsflash is available to individuals or businesses for 2000 pesos with the flash going out to almost 2000 local email addresses).

GREETINGS:

I don’t want to think I spoke too fast telling the powers at Feed The Hungry that VIP Club members would fully support an endeavor to help fund an impoverished community’s FTH kitchen in need of a financial boost.

For 25 years I have personally marveled at the herculean commitment and feat that Feed The Hungry takes on giving a hot meal to 5000 children a day.  When I projected our members’ support I sensed our Club will come through. Silly me, the optimist, went and rented Angela Peralta and as stated in past posts, “I’m swinging for the fences,” to fill the house, on Tuesday evening, February 11th.

Figuring I can’t sing or dance but I am a writer and I do have a collection of past-published essays. LOL, I realize it’s just a “reading” but I’m hoping I have enough literary firepower to relate to those “our age” and those who reside in Mexico; the East-coast nasal accent comes for free. At the same time, I’ve soberly summed up does writer, Lou Christine, boast drawing power? Well… we’ll see?

The theme of the evening is “All True Artists Must Eventually Expose Themselves.” We’re trying to make the evening all it can be. I rarely, if ever, mention my name in these posts. I am Your Club President, Lou Christine, and personally asking members to consider supporting this event.

All proceeds go directly to Feed The Hungry to help feed school children!

Tickets at La Conexion, Hank’s and Angela’s Box Office. 150 MXN General Admission, 200 MXN Reserved Seating, 250 MXN Box Seats.

Our Cristina, of Vivali Café, is chipping in on the effort and will buy you a drink before the performance at her restaurant up the block on Hernandez Macias!

BUT HOLD ON! With your ticket stub, for the next two nights after the performance, Our Jose Luis, of El Manantial Cantina, celebrating its 100 years, will honor each ticket stub from the performance with two complimentary margaritas on El Manantial and Feed The Hungry.

Any and all supporters are welcome and if any of you can’t make the event and still want to help we have a special PayPal account set up at: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=SRPUWZYW8FX7S&source=url
